USNS Mercy gives aid to Albay

Legazpi City- Pacific Partnership in Albay has ended on July 11 through a simple ceremony and appreciation for the medical assistance given by USNS Mercy to the province.

It is attended by the local officials headed by Mayor Noel E. Rosal, showing gratitude to the US troops for their Humanitarian Mission.

The USNS Mercy can be remembered as the biggest ship stayed in Albay for 15 days. The hospital ship has 900 bed capacities and 15 wards. They also showcased updated medical apparatuses such as X-ray machines and CT scans that have 100 percent accurate results.

Part of the humanitarian activities is to conduct series of medical and dental mission in different areas together with the construction and rehabilitation of school building in the remote barangays of Camalig, Daraga, Tabaco and Ligao.

Symposiums about nursing care, blood banking and transfusion procedures, medical administration and practices are conducted within their stay.

According to Major Arvin Buan, PAF-TOG-5 spokesperson, that despite of the rally they encountered the activities still went well.

Furthermore, the remaining medical supplies will be given to the local health units that can be big comfort and advantage for the Albayanos. It has been confirmed by Miguel Gutierrez, Commander Medical Director of USN Corps and the head planner of Pacific Partnership 2016.

Mayor Rosal is currently looking for a place to keep the medical equipment safe. Local government unit of Legazpi aims to have all the hospitals in the city be fully functional within the end of September and also to be modernized by the assistance of the medical equipment and supplies imparted to the Albayanos.
