When service becomes passion
Reming devastation and suffering experienced during the unforgettable 2006 super typhoon transformed and new outlook of the residents of Barangay Malobago in Daraga, Albay.
For almost 10 years, the typhoon that tumbledown not just properties and establishments but the lives of the people had shown so much indifference of today. Malobago as one of the places that experienced that horrible and shattering disaster is also one of the beneficiaries of the Daughters of Charity which is engaged in uplifting the lives of the people. It is a religious and non-profit organization that do not just put up houses but build a home that has a fighting morality to perceive with the journey behind every struggle in life. The organization helped out 579 affected families of the old Malobago. Those are the families that do not have anything after the typhoon. Daughters of Charity with the other donors, put up concrete houses, schools and chapel in Barangay Anislag, Daraga now known as the New Malobago, that served as the relocation site of the victims of Reming.
There would be many of the survivors of Reming that would just put their lives in whomever Samaritan, like the donors that helped them in bringing back their foundation. Some may actually stay for a long time into the dim part of the incidence. It can be a matter of change on their fortune but on the other hand there would also be person that may actually be the dynamo of his or her own prosperity.
Gladiola Mayor is a very motivating and inspiring person that had undergone many difficulties in life but chose to go in to the battle to serve the people. She is one of the victims but her faith brought her to where she is now. Known for her dedication in work, Ate Gladiola is working more than a regular basis and with different undertaking a day. She is currently one of the Barangay Kagawads in Barangay Malobago. She is also attending the health of the residents and a catechist as well for the grade school and high school. She divides herself into a hardworking barangay official and a religious follower of God. She always aims to have developments in their place. Almost all of her “kabarangay” known her for being a multi-tasking person because she never had anything but the passion to serve others and to ensure the wellness of many.
“Naalala ko dati, mayroon isang matanda na nakatira dito sa barangay namin, bigla siyang kinailangan isugod sa hospital pero wala pa yung mga kamag-anak niya. Ako nag dala nun kahit anong oras na yun okay lang. Masaya ako nakakatulong sa kapwa ko”, she remembered suddenly an instance that proved her heart never forgets her duty though circumstances may materialize. She admits that she doesn’t have anything in life but the passion to serve others who are in need. The perseverance of this admirable lady may serve as an inspiration to the ones who submit themselves in dropping morality just to be on top.
Being a commendable person comes with the heart to the ones who are inmost and serving them without any favor to be returned.
The service that is commendable is the service that has the desire to inspire and enrich the lives of others.
