Training centers open to drug users, pushers -TESDA V

Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) V is now prepared for the directive of the newly appointed secretary Atty. Guiling Mamondiong to assist and offer drug addicts and pushers vocational courses in their training centers.

The regional director of TESDA V, Condrado G. Bares had set a meeting on July 26, 2016 to formally coordinate in the implementation of the order.

It was attended by some concerned agencies like the Philippine National Police (PNP), Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) and the Department of Health(DOH).

According to Rosalyn Perida, the designated Public Information Officer of TESDA, enrollees will be classified first if they are in mild, moderate or severe offenses of drug addiction. The department will be in-charge of the mild and moderate users only. Hence, the severe ones will be subjected to rehabilitation with the assistance of DOH.

With this, Local Government Units will be assisting TESDA to make the program possible. Drug addicts and pushers will be trained for all the vocational courses available depending on their profiling.

“It will be feasible to start within this year because we are prepared for this directive of the new secretary. The process will start on training the enrolees to enhance their skills so that TESDA will be an aid to give them self-employment and wage employment. We do not have problems with the training centers because we already have existing ones”, Perida added.

Also, this order will help in giving these drug users and pushers a chance to be a productive and useful citizen.
