Legazpi ranked 3rd most competitive city

Legazpi City has been declared by the National Competitiveness Council as third most competitive city surpassing its mayor’s expectation during the 4th Regional Summit held last July 14,2016 at the Philippine International Convention Center, Pasay City.

In an interview before, Legazpi City mayor Noel E. Rosal said that he is not aiming to top the said summit. Fortunately, the city ranked third on the Cities and Municipalities Competitiveness Index (CMCI), seven place higher compared to its ranking last year.

The National Competitiveness Council proclaimed Naga City as the over-all most competitive component city along with the 2nd placer which was San Fernando, Pampanga and Legazpi City on the third spot.

Rosal also enumerated the four awards received by the city government of Legazpi in the 2016 CMCI. These are the awards: third place in Component Cities category-government efficiency pillar, 3rd place in infrastracture and same place in economic dynamism. Overall, Legazpi placed 3rd most competitive component city.

He added that Legazpi City was voted as ‘one of the best livable cities’ in the country in 2015 while the Asian Institute of Management has named it as an ‘emerging city’next to Davao’.

‘’After the occurence of super typhoon Reming in 2006,we have prepared Legazpi City to rise above disasters and the people to become more resilient," he said.

The National Competitiveness Council proclaimed during the summit Naga City as the overall Most Competitive Component City along with the 2nd placer, San Fernando, Pampanga.

According to Rosal, because of the CMCI index ranking, it has been receiving more investors that are now eyeing Legazpi as the next hub for economic investment expansion outside Manila.

He further elaborated that it was needed, so the city government could proceed with the development in the city, even with harsh natural calamities due to climate change.

Meanwhile, Manito town, one of Albay’s municipalities was adjudged second place in the third to sixth class municipalities category under the Economic Dynamism Pillar.

There were 1,389 competing local government units; 144 of them are cities and 1,245 are municipalities which joined this year’s competitiveness summit that was an initiative of the National Competitiveness Council to improve the performance of LGUs across the country and make them an alternative place for investments. -Oragon Digest
