FOR LORDS’ SAKE

Philippine politics appears undaunted of different dilemma that the country is facing but underneath its concept of learning from mistakes, the most important thing is human actions and response toward such undertakings.

Increasing rate of crimes across the nation was learned to be of drug-related incidents. With the rise of the new administration, it is a new hope to stand and a new beginning which Filipinos are all looking forward to.

After assuming post on June 30, more intensive anti-illegal drug operations were enforced by the authority. Former Davao Mayor and the 16th President of our Republic, Rodrigo Duterte promised a more progressive and safer country to live in.

On his inauguration he identified the foremost problem of Filipino people-- crime and illegal drugs. This has been the hallmark of his presidency and even on his past term.

In Albay, shabu is the most used illegal drugs and next is marijuana. An accused may be found guilty for illegal drugs possession, if he was caught in the act of using or it was found inside his home.

The intensive and massive campaign of the Philippine National Police against the illegal drugs or the Oplan Double Barrel, in Albay, Oplan Tokhang (Katok Pakiusap) was implemented to encourage drug personalities to voluntary surrender at the station and stop using illegal drugs. This project has lessened the fears of Albayanos of chronic effects to teenagers in using illegal drugs and to their families who are affected, too. This is a great development for our community.

It is also all around the news, the massive casualties and deaths of these users. It somehow dismaying to know that they are being killed for such accusations and their family mourns for them with no due process of law. We are not sure that there will be fair treatment to be applied among the drug users and the drug lords or must I say ordinary people and those who are in power. It has always been the poor guys getting killed, how about the rich ones who use and trade drugs?

The lords who are protected by some law enforcers are treated like precious gems to keep the business smooth. I hope there would be a fair treatment and punishment of the law. This gives additional fear to people of how our president would execute his punishment, the death penalty. It is rugged and ruthless. There are violent reactions from people; some are in favor and some are opposing with the very idea of this system, especially the Commission on Human Rights.

We must be prepared for the law and order that this new administration will do; we should give our full trust on them. It has become a complex phenomenon that affects our country.

Today illegal drugs is worse than prostitution, it invariably endangers the morals of not just an individual but the country as a whole. There is so much to be done, it depends how much determination Duterte administration will give.

We, Filipino people are hoping for a safer and free from unlawful acts home and we have the capacity to stop this hypocrisy, change our beliefs, just have faith and trust in the government. I know we can make it. Change is here.
