Legazpi, Sorsogon partner for economic development


To foster a strong partnership that would be mutually beneficial for the two localities and to further encourage other investors to put up businesses therein, Legazpi City Mayor Noel E. Rosal and Mayor Joan Aquende of Castilla, Sorsogon signed a sisterhood agreement, Tuesday, for the improvement of their economic growth.

The agreement was signed on September 27 at the session hall of the Sangguniang Bayan (Municipal Council) of Castilla that was in connection with the council’s Resolution 046-2016 “expressing willingness for a sisterhood relationship” with the Legazpi City government. The same resolution was passed in Legazpi to benefit the two local governments in humanizing initiatives in different areas. They wanted to have enhancement in the areas of science and technology, culture and arts, education and sports development, environmental protection, public health and social services, tourism development and in planning and urban development.

Knowing that Legazpi City had growing economy for the past years, Mayor Aquende wants to be connected with this improvement having the basis of the recently declaration of the National Competitive Council (NCC), Legazpi, as the third most competitive component city in the country. It obtained high scores from the NCC in terms of government efficiency, economic dynamism and infrastructure development. NCC is a public-private sector partnership created during the administration of President Benigno Aquino III.

Rosal said that he will encourage other investors to put up businesses in Castilla to improve the economic activities in the place and give employment to the people.

Meanwhile, Aquende said that the deal is just starting to grow well by sharing best practices between the two localities that will benefit the constituents of two parties. She commends Legazpi City’s contributions in the areas of good governance and tourism development and she hopes to be part of it in the coming years.
